Description

Amazing Mountain Views in a Lush and Peaceful Setting
If you appreciate lush and green surroundings you have come to the right place in an exclusive Kailua neighborhood.

Kapakai Cottage is a newly renovated modern island style apartment on the second story of our home in Kailua. There are beautiful mountain views all around. The balcony, bedrooms and living room overlook the lush Koolau mountains.
The apartment is located in a quiet neighborhood, about a five-minute drive from Kailua town and beautiful Kailua/Lanikai beaches.
There is a king size bed in the master bedroom and a queen size bed in the second bedroom. We also offer a play and pack portable crib for a infant.
The bath has an entry to both the living room and the bedroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with a cooktop stove, oven, refrigerator, and microwave. The bath has a jacuzzi tub, which can also be used as a shower.
Wireless access, cable TV, and DVD/VCR are also provided. There is plenty of ventilation with ceiling fans in both bedrooms and in the living room. There are beach accessories and bicycles available for your use at no additional charge. The bicycles are "beach" bicycles, so they are a little rusty and used but they will get you around Kailua town and to the beach.

Located about 20 minutes from Honolulu, Waikiki and Hanuama Bay and Pearl Harbor. This property is very well situated not far from the scenic routes taking you to the North and South Shores where you can enjoy beautiful the magnificent Hawaiian coastline.

Kailua is a very charming windward town where you will find the residents most pleasant and helpful. Kailua offers many restaurants that your hosts can recommend, interesting shops, golf courses, tennis and water sports such as windsurfing, para-sailing and kayaking. On the windward side you can also enjoy a day at Sea Life Park, encounters with animals at Kualoa Ranch and some amazing hiking.

AWESOME STAY

Review submitted: February 09, 2017

Review from: Sue from Jesup,, Iowa

Date of Stay: January 2017

We had a wonderful stay at the Kapakai Cottage. We were very busy and on the go as our son is stationed in Hawaii and took leave while we were visiting. So we had our own private tour guide. The cottage was wonderful, very clean and spacious. i would definitely recommend Kapakai Cottage for anyone to stay at.

5 star Kilauea!

What an awesome place!
We recently spent 2 weeks on 3 islands at 4 different VRBO properties. This was by far the best!
The property is exactly as listed! The unit is spacious- and beautifully decorated :) Hard wood floors, granite, the works!
Lots of drawer space in the bedrooms- super comfy linens and beds. Fans overhead and extras to help create a cross breeze. We were worried about the heat- but found that between the breeze and fans we actually needed a blankie at night!

Bathroom was set up nicely for a family to share the space...with a door between shower and toilet and a space to get ready with sink and mirrors. Lots of space for toiletries for 4. Plenty of fluffy towels, hair dryer, soap :)

Kitchen had everything you need! We made breakfast and packed lunches, but didn't do any real cooking in the unit- although we certainly could have.

TV, cable, maps of the island, wifi, beach stuff that we made use of each day! Tons of beach towels, chairs, cooler, and beach toys so we didn't have to go buy this stuff. Grocery store within walking distance- and make sure you hit "the Shack" for lunch or dinner!

as if that wasn't enough, Dave and Sandra were incredibly welcoming and available if we had any issues, questions, or needed a dinner recommendation :) We would absolutely recommend this property! Our stay was incredible and we count Dave and Sandra as friends we look forward to seeing again!

Nice quiet stay

Date of Stay: July 2016

Better all around experience than the two days I stayed in Waikiki at a 4 star hotel. Hotel stay also had $25/day spa fee and $25/day valet parking fee - each of which you need to consider as well when comparing price/day, making this a great overall value!

Kailua at its best

Review from: Richards Family from Milwaukee, WI

Date of Stay: March 2016

Lovely apartment with plenty of room for our family of three. It was very clean and comfortable. This was our first experience staying in a rental where the owners lived on site. They were very accommodating and treated us like family. We did not have access to the yard but there is a small lanai that wraps around the house that we used in the evening and early morning. Air flow with windows open was fabulous it was hot outside but you wouldn't know it inside. Beds were very comfortable. Kitchen/bathroom had all necessities.
The neighborhood is safe and close to grocery stores and restaurants and best yet the local beaches. Lots of beach equipment provided.
We can't wait to stay again!

Beautiful Location - Incredible Host!

Review submitted: May 03, 2016

Review from: Chris & Nicole from Seattle, Wa

Date of Stay: April 2016

Although my wife had visited the island many times before, we had never experienced it quite as well as we did this time. The apartment is situated on the 2nd floor of the host's residence, but toward the back, and with a rear facing entrance, so there is plenty of privacy. You can see in every direction from the apartment wrap around balcony and bedroom windows, and it's very modern, with every convenience that you would want. While the apartment itself would have received a 5-star from us, it was the host that made this trip unforgettable. He was passionate about helping us experience the Hawaii that he knew and loved. He not only gave us great recommendations on places to eat and visit, but he showed us around the area the first afternoon and toward the end of our brief visit, took us out on a kayak excursion to the Mokulua Islands! This place receives our absolute highest recommendation for anyone looking for a modern, yet authentic Hawaiian experience.

This apartment (above a lovely family) is a great place to stay, right in the middle of a real Kailua neighborhood. super-short drive to several beaches, including spectacular Kailua beach. the apt. is exactly as advertised, and the family downstairs was wonderfully nice, helpful, friendly, and welcoming. the apartment is well-stocked, the windows let in lots of cool breeze, and we enjoyed the lush mountain view. we even got to know the neighbors!

Dear Ms. Wilson:

In all respects, our stay at Kapakai Cottage in Kailua, HI, was excellent. The unit was clean, well furnished, conveniently located and, best of all, the owners are wonderful, kind and thoughtful people. We highly recommend this property for guests who want to stay in a beautiful part of Honolulu but not in the center of the tourist area.

Sincerely,

This was a perfect opportunity for our family of four to explore the whole island over a week, while getting the feel of local spots in the Kailua area. The home owners were very welcoming, even taking us to some local spots for amazing views and offering advice on what to do. We enjoyed the living space - the apartment is decorated beautifully and clean.

The Best!

Review submitted: January 20, 2015

Review from: Liz from San Antonio, TX

Date of Stay: January 2015

My husband, niece and myself stayed at Kapakai Cottage recently. After looking at many VBRO rentals, we decided on this one and are we so glad we did. The owners could not have been more accomodating. Upon arrival, the owner showed us around Kailua - beach, shopping, etc. He even offered to take us hiking, snorkling and whale watching. Unfortunely, we did not have the time, since we were there for our son's wedding. The place is beautiful - just as it shows in the pictures. I will definelty recommend this to anyone I know who plans on visiting Oahu. Kailua is a great place to stay - away from the tourists and near many places on the east side of the island. Thank you to the owners. They made our stay wonderful!

Kapakai Cottage experience

Review submitted: December 18, 2014

Review from: A & B from Alberta, Canada

Date of Stay: November 2014

We are so pleased that we chose the Kapakai Cottage in Kailua. It is a large, very clean and well-equipped unit that made us feel relaxed and at home quickly. There is a good selection of beach towels and mats and a handy outdoor shower/spray hose for getting the sand off when you get back from the beach. It has modern appliances, a BBQ and all the dishes and cookware you require. Your hosts are very friendly and accommodating in your requirements for the suite as well as guiding you to restaurants and beaches around the island. We would not hesitate to recommend this unit to others and we look forward to our next trip back to Kailua, as we know where we will be staying.

Happy Kailua Break

Review submitted: November 17, 2014

Review from: Guest from Northbrook, Illinois

Date of Stay: October 2014

Kapakai Cottage is excellently located for access to beaches, hikes, shopping, and major roads. The owners are completely unobtrusive, but very helpful and friendly. The photos of the cottage on the website accurately reflect the decor, and the its condition is very good. The king bed only was used and is quite comfortable. The balcony was a handy for morning breakfasts, and unloading sandy beach equipment. The sofa is roomy, but requires additional support as some of the webbing for the seats has stretched beyond comfort.

Good stay

Review from: Guest from California

Date of Stay: August 2014

We stayed for a week at this cottage, and enjoyed our time. I was very grateful for availability and a reasonable price, as we planned the trip at the last minute and not many people will accommodate a family of 5. The cottage is beautifully decorated in a beachy theme, clean and with comfortable beds. We had everything we needed, including beach towels, beach gear to borrow, and a well-stocked kitchen. The beaches and restaurants of Kailua town are about 5-10 minutes away, and there are some other restaurants and a grocery right around the corner. Since the apartment is upstairs, you do overlook some close neighbors. The only struggle we had was keeping our children quiet enough. Overall, a very good option for those who want to get away from the hustle of Honolulu and have a relaxing experience on Oahu.

Beautiful Condo with Aloha-style Hospitality

Review submitted: August 29, 2014

Review from: Harps from Naperville, IL

Date of Stay: August 2014

Condo: one of the few VRBO's that actually looks better in person than the pictures! Clean, crisp, modern, island decor, and super comfortable beds. Well-stocked kitchen and extra futon was comfortable as well. We went during a very hot time, August, so the daytime temps soared and AC would've been a plus. Night time tradewinds kept us comfortable, as did the many ceiling fans. The beach extras were a huge plus: straw mats, beach towels, sand toys, snorkel and fins, beach balls, boogie boards, even several beach bikes, which we didn't get to use. The side yard that leads to the second story condo, is beautifully maintained and landscaped, with motion detector lights leading the way on the staircase. There is an outdoor shower to wash the sand off before going up. The fuse blew out our power a couple times, but again--the owner was immediately responsive and reset it. (He thinks he knows the problem and will fix it)

Owners: Wow! These owners are ambassadors of island-style aloha hospitality! They go over and above in terms of advice, tips, and offers to show the island. They are very responsive and will be as involved as you'd like. From lending us snorkeling gear to having a beer on the patio to offering to take us on sunrise hikes, the owners made our stay truly memorable. I wish we didn't have such a busy sight-seeing agenda; we could have enjoyed all the day trips the owner proposed.

Kailua: beautiful and sleepy town, certainly away from the frantic pace of Waikiki. I was a little surprised and disappointed that a town of 70,000 had restaurants that closed before 9pm on a Saturday. I had the idea that the town was a well-kept secret, but the touristy crowds at both Kaiula Beach and Lani Kai told a different story.

I would recommend this property to family/friends, and we would certainly visit again, though probably not in the scorching middle of August. Both the condo's comfort and the warmth/charisma of the owners make this a perfect island retreat.

Great place to stay in Kailua

Review submitted: August 02, 2014

Review from: Pasha from Houston, TX

Date of Stay: July 2014

The unit is impeccable. Beautiful. The location is great, if you're looking to escape tourists and enjoy some of what the island has to offer that isn't Waikiki and lousy, overpriced drinks. And the hosts are two of the most friendly, welcoming, and helpful people I've ever met. I kinda wanted them to adopt me. Hopefully we'll have an opportunity to visit again, and we'd choose to stay here in a heartbeat.

Hosts were very helpful and friendly, location was good with grocery and gas nearby, parking was easy, 2nd floor allowed good ventilation with trade winds, rooms were clean, comfortable beds, and newer kitchen appliances, quiet neighborhood (except for some dogs barking at times), overall a very good experience and we would stay there again.
