Description

The Kalaheo Beach House is ideally situated on a private beach lane, in a serene, garden setting, only 240 steps away (yes, we counted them) from world famous Kailua Beach on Oahu's windward side.

It is truly four minutes out the front door and down the private lane to access beautiful, uncrowded Kailua Beach.

Outside the house, there is a large garden area with outdoor shower, a breezy, lovely open deck with furniture and a gas BBQ.
The storage shed contains 4 small adult bicycles, beach chairs, small coolers, boogie boards and float noodles for use at the beach. There also is a beach wagon to pull the chairs to the beach.
An open Hawaiian outdoor hot/cold shower is behind the house for you to enjoy.
Inside the house there is one bedroom with a queen sized bed and a second bedroom with two extra-long firm twin beds. The house has a half bath and a bathroom with shower, toilet and sink.
There is a full kitchen with full size stove, large refrigerator, freezer and ice maker, a dining area for 6 and a nice living room with large flat screen cable connected HDTV.
There is a large desk in the kitchen with Wi-Fi internet access for your laptop. The house also has a landline for local calls.

Most days island trade winds and ceiling fans will keep you comfortable but at night or when needed, there is air-conditioning for your added comfort in each bedroom and a whole house fan to cool the living/dining room.

There is a washer and dryer on the property and a double wide parking space.

Great house, close to the beach

Review submitted: October 08, 2017

Review from: Bill from Chula Vista, CA

Date of Stay: September 2017

We stayed here with our three kids for a week in Sept. The house is in a great location. It is literally a 1-2 min walk down the lane to the beach. So close I would walk down barefoot, jump in the ocean for 5-10 min, and walk home. Kailua is a nice, quiet place to stay. Kailua Beach is gorgeous. Kailua is kind of in the center of everything distance-wise: Honolulu, North Shore, Laie, Makapu'u Point, etc. Good parking for 2 vehicles.
There are only beds for 4 and only the bedrooms are air-conditioned. We were very comfortable at night in the bedrooms. Our youngest slept on the fold-out futon in the LR and he did okay with a fan (provided) directly on him, but it was Sept, not July. The living spaces weren't too bad since we just left the windows open 24/7.
The house felt roomy for the five of use, plenty of room to move around, relax, etc. The carpet was recently cleaned. The kitchen was adequate, but nothing fancy. There are enough dishes, etc to do simple cooking. Some reusable ice blocks are in the freezer and there's a cooler in the shed. There were basic condiments in the fridge (ketchup, mayo, mustard, etc). Ants appear if any food is left out. I recommend bringing large storage zip-locks to put open packages in (crackers, cookeis, etc.), bag clips for cereal bags, etc. Nothing can be left open, it must be either completely sealed or in the fridge.
There is a W/D outside, but you'll need to bring your own soap and softeners. There are beach towels provided which are adequate, but if you want really nice ones, bring your own. We were fine with theirs, I wouldn't waste the luggage space. There were beach chairs, 2 boogie boards, etc. Again, adequate, but nothing fancy.
The outside shower was really nice. The inside BR is fine, but no shampoo or anything is provided, just soap. The extra 1/2 bath was nice for when the BR was in use.
Internet worked pretty well when it was just my laptop, but once everyone else woke up and go their phones going, it got a little slow. TV gets cable, but if you want certain movies, bring your own DVDs or something.
All things considered, we would stay here again. The location really couldn't be better, except maybe directly on the beach. (Assuming you don't want to stay in busy Waikiki!) The home is not "fancy", but everything was clean and in order and the home is very comfortable to "hang out" in. The tips above will hopefully make you a little more prepared.

Date of Stay: May 24-30, 2017

We loved our stay at the Kalaheo Beach House in Kailua. Our favorite part was how close it was to Kalama Beach. My husband and I took sunrise walks (beautiful views and coffee at a local market was our reward for getting up early) and my teen boys loved being able to boogie-board before dinner. The bungalow is charming, well kept, and in a great spot if you want to explore the many locations Oahu offers. We'd highly recommend it to anyone!

Family, Fun and Relaxation

Review submitted: April 29, 2017

Review from: Pam & Craig Lapoint from West Warren, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: Saturday, April 15, 2017

My family recently stayed at the Kalaheo Beach House for a week. We chose this location because my husband's brother and family live in the neighborhood. We had no idea how close they actually live to this wonderful rental! We easily walked back and forth to visit, which made our stay so nice.
The house itself is just what we hoped for. It is very large, very comfortable, has a beautiful, private yard with a great deck, and gave us plenty of space to spread out. There were lots of amenities, such as sheets, towels, books, games, a fully equipped kitchen, air conditioners in the bedrooms,a big t.v., beach supplies, an outdoor shower, a grill... I could go on. My favorite item might be the outdoor washer and dryer. It was so nice to lounge on the deck and wash up our beach towels as I watched all the fabulous birds around me. A mother's idea of heaven!
The beach is just down a short, private road. And the beach, the best around. Quiet, private and amazingly beautiful. It often felt like our own private beach. We honestly had little reason to leave the immediate neighborhood. But, ...
Once you do, everything you need is a few minutes away in "downtown" Kailua. We went to the market (Safeway & Wholefoods), stocked up the fridge and didn't need to eat out, unless we wanted to. Lots of places to eat in close proximity. And Waikiki/Honolulu is only about 35 minutes away!! One of our most relaxing trips ever. Thank you Les, Pat, Barbara and Corryn. We feel like family. Be back soon!!

All the following make this a great rental: quiet neighborhood but close enough to restaurants and grocery shopping, beautiful walkable swimable beach, well stocked and spacious kitchen and bathroom, plenty of beach toys-fins, boogie boards, beach chairs, bicycles.

Kalaheo Beach House

Review submitted: March 16, 2016

Review from: Dori, John and Barbara

Date of Stay: March 2016

We had the opportunity to stay at this wonderful beach home located in Kailua. The home is located on a street with the beach less than a 2 minute walk from the front door. Daily during stay we walked to the beach, watched the sunrise then continued our walk for about 3/4 mile to the Kalapawai Market for coffee and a chat with locals.
The house feels more like a home. Clean and well stocked with everything I would have at home from essentials for cooking to a washer and dryer. It was fun doing laundry under the covered porch in the warm Hawaiian climate. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. We were traveling with my husbands 86 year old mom and she really enjoyed having a space to herself. She said she slept well. We did not have any youngsters with us but I did notice the hall closet had some choice toys that would have suited anyone who wanted to swim or create a sand castle. There are one and a half baths in the house with an outside shower area that is completely private. Great place for getting clean after being on the beach.
We liked the proximity to Kailua as we enjoy walking and exploring. The town has all the amenities and we were able to purchase what we needed but not be overwhelmed in a big city. Tasty local restaurants, some had live music, and a wonderful take-out poke place. There is a book in the dining room area that contains brochures from the area and interesting sites on the island.
The weather during our stay was great, rained at night and even had a semi-cloudless blue sky several days. I know the weather can get hot and muggy but with the Trade Winds we stayed cool in the house. After all our walking we occasionally chose to rest in the living room where we were even able to sit down on the spacious couch and catch up with the news on the T.V.
We have decided definitely to return to the Kalaheo Beach house next year. Great vacation!

Kalaheo Beach House

Review submitted: February 11, 2016

Review from: Andy

Date of Stay: January 2016

Our stay on Oahu was terrific, thanks largely to the splendid accommodations. The cottage is super-comfortable and the whole family enjoyed the private "open air" shower. There are laundry facilities on hand, lots of comfy bedding and towels, bicycles for the adventurous to use, and even a couple boogie-boards, which is great, considering it's only a stone's throw -literally a couple hundred yards- to the beach, and the beach access is private at that. It couldn't be more convenient and there's parking for a couple cars. And down-town Kailua is only minutes away by bike car, bus, or even on foot, and offers great shopping and tons of fantastic restaurants. There're are several hiking trails close by that we really enjoyed and golf courses if that's your thing. The only thing wrong with our trip is it was over too soon. The cottage is perfect and even has an individual a/c in each of the bedrooms if needed, but we didn't need it with the ceiling fans. It was just a perfect getaway for our family. I would sign up again for this cottage in a heartbeat. Also, the other residents on "the lane" are very personable and made us feel very welcome and at home, like we belonged there. Best vacation ever. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Andy

Rosenthal Kailua house

Review submitted: November 21, 2015

Review from: hdb from Canada

Date of Stay: October 2015

My husband and I spent 5 lovely days at the end of October at this little gem we discovered only recently. We normally holiday in Maui but some friends suggested we try Kailua. The location was fabulous. It was great to be so close to the beach, just a short walk up a private lane. We especially enjoyed walking along the ocean at 7 am to pick up a fresh cup of coffee at a local shop. Very close to restaurants, within walking distance of town. The gas BBQ was convenient out back when we just wanted to stay home for dinner. This was much preferred over the community BBQ we are used to in Maui. We did not have time for golf this time but this cottage is not far from the local golf course. We were impressed by the welcoming atmosphere of the house which was clean and homey. There were many personal touches adorning the walls including hand done quilted murals. It was equipped with everything you could wish for during your stay including bikes to explore the town & beach chairs as well as other necessary beach items, and even a wagon to help get everything there. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of bedding linens as well as bath towels, & beach towels. Laundry facilities are on site making it easier to travel light. I especially enjoyed sitting out on the back deck reading a book in the late afternoon and watching the many birds come by to feed at the bird feeder. I saw 3 different types of cardinals one day. hdb from Canada

Great Location and Lots of Beach Accessories to Use

Review submitted: August 26, 2015

Review from: SuzieQ from San Diego, CA

Date of Stay: August 2015

We had a great time at the Kalaheo Beach House. It was so close to a gorgeous and fun beach. We just walked past a few houses on a quiet safe shared driveway and we were there! It was a great location for our kids because the house also had a nice sized yard. The shed had beach chairs, bicycles, and snorkel gear to use, which was also convenient. The house was not far from Kailua town, which was a nice small sized town, with just the right number of shops and restaurants (there is even a Target there). The house has a very good floor plan and good sized rooms. The two bedrooms have window air conditioning units, which made sleeping quite comfortable, but the rest of the house was quite warm during the day in the summer when we were there. The kitchen was dated, but had all the essential cooking utensils and dishes. Overall, we had a great time and my only complaint was the sticky(humid) heat in the main part of the house.

Rosenthal Beach House Rental Review

Review from: Allen and Kathy

Date of Stay: December 2014

Location of the cozy plantation home was ideal including a hidden trail to the beautiful white sand beach. The safe quiet neighborhood was walking distance from coffee, pizza and shaved ice. Took a relaxing and therapeutic walk in our bare feet down the beach and from the country club at the golf course. Surf fishing attempt by the sportsman and relaxed on the deck watching the multitude of birds attracted to the feeder. Bikes and beach chairs were available in the shed, and a quick ride over the mountain had us at Pearl Harbor. Enjoyed the hike to lighthouse, whale watching, sailing, and walk along the marsh. Slept among quilts and fabric art in a comfy bed to the cooling tropical breezes and definitely need to book our return visit next year.

Kalaheo Beach House

Review submitted: April 03, 2015

Review from: Barbara

Date of Stay: March 2015

We stayed for 8 days at the Kalaheo Beach House in March 2015. The most beautiful beach is just steps away from the house and we walked down the beach in the morning to a local coffee cafe, got our Lattes and walked back. What a way to start the day. The cottage comes equipped with all sorts of outdoor gear. We used the snorkel equipment one day to explore Turtle Bay. Another day we used the bicycles for a ride along a dike. We also hike up to the Pill Boxes, using walking poles available in the house. Beach chairs and towel were available. So basically, you don’t have to bring all your sports gear, its already there. There’s a washer and dryer available for after a day at the beach.

All four of use (two couples) had plenty for room for cooking in the well-equipped kitchen. The guys used the outdoor B-B-Q to cook the Mahi Mahi they caught. The dining room seats at least 6 and there’s lots of room to stretch out and relax in the living room that has a large screen, high definition TV. Beds were comfy and all sheets and towels were provided.

The cottage is conveniently located near shopping, golf, sailing, snorkeling and great restaurants. We would definitely recommend this beach house for active adults and kids.

Date of Stay: March 2015

My husband and I just returned from our vacation in Oahu where we were the guest of Les and Pat Rosenthal at their lovely home in Kailua.
The house is located just steps away from the beautiful Kailua beach which in itself is worth the trip. Strolling on the beach every morning to get coffee and pastries is a great way to start your morning.

The house is a traditional beach home located within short driving distances to what Ouahu has to offer. Everything about the house is perfect. It is clean, comfortable and a joy to stay in. There is plenty of room in the big kitchen and the dinning room is big enough to sit a family of 4 very comfortably.

I was pleasantly surprised on how spacious the bedrooms were. If you decide to just stay and not go anywhere you can enjoy the deck out back and have a barbecue.

The one thing I really enjoyed was the friendliness of the neighbors. I have stayed in many beach homes over the years and this house is by far the best for the money. Aloha! Debbie and Richard

The house is clean and very comfortable, deck in the backyard is great. Short walk to the beach, short drive to shops and restaurants. Neighborhood is quiet and safe, virtually no traffic. HD large t.v. is very nice. Kitchen well equipped. Much nicer than staying in a crowded hotel, more like having a real home on Oahu.

Review from: Barbara and Dayle

Date of Stay: October 2014

We stayed a week at the Rosenthal's property and found it to be exactly what we were looking for! The house is within easy walking distance to the beautiful beach and a great little coffee house. While it is very quiet and "off the beaten track", it is also only a 5-minute drive to downtown (lots of shopping and great restaurants) and an easy walk.

The home itself is very comfortable with air conditioning in the bedrooms and a wonderful breeze through the rest of the rooms. It has everything anyone could need for an extended stay - big kitchen, comfortable family room, and a very large and high quality TV.

There are lots of fun things to do in the area including a great street fair with many fruit and vegetable stands and great prepared foods. The hikes in the area are beautiful, golfing and tourist attractions are within a half hour drive, and even Honolulu is only 35 minutes away.

We can't think of a better location combining a relaxing visit with the ability to be as active and involved as one wishes! We are definitely looking forward to coming back!
