I loved the location of Garden Studio! It's only a few minutes walk to the beach, and is close to shops and restaurants. No need to drive if you don't want to! The studio is the perfect size for someone traveling solo, as I did, or a couple, and was nice and clean. Beach towels and chairs are available to use during the stay, which I used daily. I have to throw in that although there is A/C, I did not use it once during my stay! The ceiling fan and the wonderful island breezes were enough to keep me cool, and I'm from Alaska :) The nightly gecko visits were very enjoyable as well.
All in all, it was an awesome visit, and I love the vibe of Kailua.

Great location near Kailua Beach Park

Review submitted: February 09, 2016

Great location. Very pleasant to be on such a quiet street. The lanai was fine for outdoor eating and visiting. It has all the gear you need for the beach and Kailua beach is an easy walk from the room. We visited relatives in Honolulu who live near the Pali Highway and it was an easier drive than if we had stayed near Waikiki. There were two of us.

4 blocks from the beach for under $100/night. That, by itself, would be enough for me, but the unit was also clean / stocked appropriately / private feeling. Really enjoyable place to stay.

I love staying here it was my 3rd time and it's never a let down there is so much to do around it and everyone is always so nice the freedom of coming and going as you please and to have your own parking spot is always a plus...I would only suggest maybe a heavier blanket for the bed but that is the only issue but other than that I'll keep coming back

We had a great 9 days at the Garden Studio. We loved sitting outside on the private patio. The suite is in a great part of town because it is within walking distance to the beach and also downtown. Kailua is a great little town because it is not as busy as Honolulu but still has everything that is needed for a fun time. The kitchenette had everything we needed to prepare simple meals. I don't really have any complaints about this place.

Perfect for Us

Review submitted: May 06, 2015

Review from: BeachWizard from Grass Valley, CA

Date of Stay: April 2015

Gabriele, our host, made our stay in Kailua perfect. We needed a studio with separate entrance, mini-kitchen, bathroom, and air conditioning. One can check for all of these on a web site. What you can't verify is the type of personality that is renting to you.

Gabriele is gracious, friendly, and helpful. We were blessed to have her has our host.

The studio is behind the garage. Though there is no view, you're tucked into a tiny alcove with a covered patio and some tropical plants, we felt quite cozy and comfortable here.

About the studio - The bed was very comfortable. We stayed at three different places on this trip. This bed was the best. We did not need the air conditioning, but it's an important option. On other visits to Hawaii we've stayed in places not on the ocean that didn't have air conditioning. And we suffered during a heat spell. The beach is an easy walk from the studio. I'd walk there most every morning. Get coffee at the little market and go sit out on the beach. The mini-kitchen had everything we needed for easy quick meals. The bathroom is attractive with a beautiful tiled shower.

A small, quiet, clean, comfortable studio about four blocks from the beach. It has private parking onsite in a safe neighborhood, and enough of a kitchen to prepare simple meals. Almost wonderful, just too damp.

Review submitted: February 16, 2015

Review from: Guest from Los Angeles, CA

Date of Stay: January 2015

The Good:

This very reasonably priced studio rental is on a quiet street beside a park, just a 9 minute slow walk to Kailua Beach where it can be accessed from Kailua Beach Park near Kalapawai Market. There is a bedroom that includes a very well equipped kitchenette, a bathroom with shower, and a nice quiet ground level garden lanai (deck-patio). The friendly and helpful owner is readily available for any request large or small and it was almost perfect except for a few things that let it down. One example, our bed pillows were not clean enough and smelled less than fresh, and a quick mention was all it took for the owner to get them laundered within a couple of hours on a Saturday.

The Bad.

Smells and dampness. The Windward side of O'ahu is quite damp in the winter, and this unit is all in the shade. It was too damp and humid inside and this resulted in a stale musty smell. In addition, the carpet seemed stained, and the bed frame seemed to be a very heavy and unmovable former waterbed base, and consequently we could see thick dust underneath from the headboard end indicating that no-one has cleaned under there for a long time. The dampness extended into the drawers and these drawers contained a very musty and malodorous bedspread. This was quite unacceptable. We moved on to Kauai, and all our clothes were still musty as we unpacked in a hotel there.

In conclusion.

The owner could just get a normal lightweight bed that can be moved for cleaning each week, shampoo the carpet and install a heavy-duty dehumidifier and run it around the clock for a few days, and then this little place will be quite nice once it is dried out and clean.

After visiting Oahu, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island, I say the best beach overall in Hawaii was at the Kailua Beach Park and at Lanikai Beach. The studio is close to both beaches, it is nicely separated from other parts of the house, has internet and air conditioning. We liked our stay very much, thanks!

Comfortable accommodation and convenient location

Review submitted: June 19, 2014

Review from: Guest from City, State

Date of Stay: May 2014

We stayed there for a week and felt very comfortable there. Our unit was in the back of the house and there was a little patio and garden. We enjoyed sitting out there enjoying the light breeze after a long day touring the island. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was well maintained. It's only 10 minute walk to restaurants and shopping center, yet it's secluded enough and quiet except for when the other unit in the back was in the back yard having dinner. There was an A/C unit which was absolutely necessary for us because the first few days we got there, it was pretty hot. It's 10 minute walk to Kailua Beach Park, so we just walked to the beach to hang out there in the evening. There's a water sports/tour company and a good shave ice shop on the way to the beach. That was a plus. All in all, I'd stay here if I visit Oahu again.

I had a lovely experience staying at Garden Studio in Kailua. The apartment was cute, quiet and clean. I especially loved the private entrance and porch, surrounded by lush greenery. It was a relaxing and peaceful "home away from home." The studio was affordable and offered a short, convenient walk to Kailua town and also the beach. I would definitely recommend to other price-conscious travelers seeking affordable, worry-free accommodations. Our stay here surely made for a pleasant experience while on Oahu.

I stayed here with my girlfriend early in March. It's a nice little room: has all of the basics. Pretty clean, definitely would consider staying here again. It's quiet and definitely was all we needed since we spent most of our time out and about. Only suggestion would be for the landlord to do something with the TV as the remote didn't work. Wasn't a big deal since I had my ipad and there's free Wifi.
Overall, good stay.

we were very pleased the room was well equipped for our stay, and we appreciate the cleaning fee was waived. We liked the fact that the patio was private and Gabrielle and Lee were helpful when we asked for anything. Garden Studio was exactly what we needed, a quiet and private place to stay after a month of travel in Australia and Indonesia. Very important to have self-catering facilities as we were tired of eating in restaurants. Everything worked, except the coffee maker probably needs a replacement - I emailed the Finns to let them know. Great to be so near the beach and also close to lovely walks in the forests. We would certainly book through you again on a return visit.

The minute We saw this little studio we were enraptured. It is totally private, extremely peaceful, and at the end of a garden walk is our own little patio and covered porch, or lanai, as they say in Hawaii. Totally private. We never heard the neighbors or the owner family, yet they were there if you needed information. The little efficiency is tastefully and sensibly equipped, and the bed is extremely comfortable. We never did use the AC, since the evening breezes are so heavenly. We drove over to the beautiful Kailua Beach each day, but it is indeed walkable, as are a couple of restaurants in the area. If we go back we will return to this studio!

This is a detached bedroom with its own entrance through a side gate. Facility was clean, neat, quiet, and adequately supplied for my visit, although it would have been better if it had a clock radio. Air conditioner worked fine until it stopped running halfway through my stay. The homeowner was very cordial and pleasant. The facility met my needs and was reasonably priced.

My boyfriend and I needed a comfortable and affordable place to stay while visiting family members on the windward side of Oahu. My parents house couldn't fit all the visiting adults so we had to look around the local area for studio-type rooms on short notice. The Garden Studio was perfect for what we wanted, and offered us all the necessary amenities for a 2-night stay. I've been to Kailua plenty of times so we did not require a tour guide or anything above and beyond accomodations - just a clean bedroom, a kitchen, and a bathroom. The hosts were sweet and let us keep to ourselves, but made themselves available if we needed anything. I'd recommend the Garden Studio to any couple who isn't looking to spend most of their vacation in a luxury hotel/room/studio/apartment. We came back to sleep at the end of the day to a clean room in a nice neighborhood, 5 min. walking distance from the beach. Great find!
