5 minute walk to Kailua Beach, next to a small park where children play, lovely quiet at night and birdsong in the mornings. Nice kitchen area, comfortable bed, clean bathroom and shower, lovely owners. I would rate it 5 stars, but my app isn't letting me select the 5th star.

Convenient to beach, Kalapawai Market (which we love!), shopping, restaurants. 2nd stay here. Hassle free. Tiny but how much time do you spend in your room? It is, frankly, a bargain & I almost hate to spread the word - LOL! Mahalo to the Finns from these former Hawaii residents who miss Kailua.

My boyfriend and I stayed in this studio for 4 nights and loved it! The location was perfect as we were walking distance to the beach and town center. The hosts were so accommodating, when we originally booked the room there was no A/C and as a PNW girl I was nervous about being too hot at night. I voiced my concern before my stay and when we arrived there was an A/C unit installed! Also we are coffee lovers and past comments noted no coffee pot but there was also one of those in the room when we got there. We were so grateful for the supplied beach towels, coolers, and chairs. We love Kailua and can't wait to return!

Like staying at a friend's house!

Review submitted: March 15, 2016

Review from: Kanako from Calgary, Alberta

Date of Stay: February 2016

I had a great stay at Dolphin Studio! It was like staying at a friend's house, but with the freedom to come and go as you please!

The room was comfortable, clean, private and very conveniently located in a house on a lovely, quiet street. There is a public park right next to the house, so the sounds of kids at soccer/football practice or families enjoying the park were pretty common during the day, but I never heard anything particularly bothersome, and never anything after dark. All necessary kitchen amenities were available and then some. Using the microwave would sometimes cause an outage, but if you unplugged it and plugged it back in, this seemed to fix it. The bathroom was compact, but more than adequate. Lots of towels were available. the shower was large, water pressure was great and hot water was plentiful. Wifi access was good.

I didn't rent a car and found that I was fine, as everything was within walking distance. The supermarkets, drugstore (the Thursday night market takes place in the drugstore parking lot), post office and great restaurants were all 10-15 minutes on foot. Even the Enchanted Lake was maybe a 20 minute walk away (more restaurants!). Kailua and Lanikai beach were both a very easy walk. Most days, I stopped at Kalapawai Market on my way to the beach and picked up snacks, so that I could spend ALL DAY at the beach with a good book (picked up from the used book store in town). Plenty of beach towels and even beach chairs, umbrella, beach bags, and a small cooler were provided by the host. The public bus stop is at the end of the street, so it was easy to take public transit to other beaches and destinations (I went to Haleiwa, Sunset Beach, Waimea Bay, Waimanolo beach and a couple of others).

When I returned to Waikiki, I experienced a bit of "culture shock" as I was reminded of how crowded and boisterous the Waikiki beaches are compared to the peaceful, laid-back beauty of the windward side beaches.

I would highly recommend Dolphin Studio. It was perfect for me, a solo traveler on a budget who just wanted to RELAX!

Review from: Iowa Guest from Iowa

Date of Stay: November 2015

My husband & I stayed at the Dolphin Studio for 9 days in November. We had not expected it to be quite so small. If I was sitting at end of the table near the bathroom, I had to move when my husband came out of the bathroom. However, we did not spend very much time in our room. The beach, grocery store, etc. we're within walking distance. The Dolphin Studio was immaculately clean, well furnished with island decor. There were no ice cube trays but ice & trays were immediately provided when we asked. Although we did not let management know, every time we used the microwave, it blew a fuse. It was easily remedied by resetting it. We very much appreciated not having to pay a damage deposit or cleaning which we have found to be the exception. Some reviews complained about noise at the park but we did not find it to be a problem. We did very much enjoy at Dolphin Studio $ would recommend it to others!

Date of Stay: April 2015

From April 15th to 21st we stayed at the Dolphin Studio. Let's make it clear: you will not be at the Marriott because, remember, you have probably gone through Affordable-Paradise.com to make the reservation. But quite honestly...GREAT is the first word that comes to my mind. All you want and need is right there in that big enough for two room. You can easily manage to prepare your breakfast and lunch but what is more appreciated is that the hosts provide beach chairs, mats and umbrella, cooler, beach towels...and informations on what to do or not to do. They (Gabrielle and Lee) are simply the nicest people one can get as hosts. So if you want to be about 7 min walking from Kailua Beach, have a comfortable stay and the greatest kindliest hosts you can get: THIS is the place! Thanks Gabrielle and Lee and also Barbara Wilson at Affordable-Paradise for an easy reservation process too.

Grease the Swing

Review submitted: August 04, 2014

Review from: Elise and Matt from Alabama

Date of Stay: July 2014

My husband and I stayed at Dolphin Studio for 3 nights and everything was just fine except for the very annoying swing in the park right next to this house. It's a public park that stayed quite busy during the day and even the night. The play ground is about 50 yards from the studio but the creaking noise from the swing going back and forth back and forth was so annoying when we were trying to sleep or nap. We had to have the windows open because there isn't AC (which was managable) but with the windows open you can hear EVERYTHING going on in the park. We were woken up 2 nights by loud teenagers in the park probably doing things they weren't supposed to be doing. It rained one night so that kept them away at least. If someone would go grease the swings then the constant noise from that wouldn't have annoyed us so bad.

We did have a comfortable stay beside the annoyance of the park next door. The bed was very comfortable and we found the studio to have everything we needed for our short stay. We cooked 2 nights just to save some money and the hot plate and electric skillet sufficed. The shower was nice and big and refreshing after a day on the beach.

The studio is in a nice neighborhood so walking to the beach or to town was easy. It was more like 5 blocks to the beach, maybe 10 min walk, but it's not a bad walk if you don't have much stuff to take. There is a kayak rental place, shaved ice, pizza place and a small convienence store on the way to the beach as well. We liked that the studio had beach mats, an umbrella and a boogie board to use. The beach is very nice although a storm stirred up the water and made it pretty dirty while we were there. Walking along the beach was very nice and we enjoyed watching the kite surfers out in the water.

The studio is also about a 1/2-3/4 a mile to town where there is plenty of shopping and places to eat. We walked there several times for breakfast at the coffee shop (next to the bookstore) and also grabbed some dessert to go from Fresh Market. There's a grocery store too where we were able to find what we needed. It's a nice option when you don't want to spend all day at the beach.

Overall we enjoyed our stay in Kailua at the Dolphin Studio. If it wasn't for that loud swing and the loud teenagers at night it would have been a perfect stay.

Dolphin Studio

Review submitted: July 30, 2014

Review from: LG from Australia

Date of Stay: 15-18 July 2014

Our stay was fantastic. We were travelling to Hawaii for the first time, as foreigners and the process was relatively smooth and once we arrived at the Dolphin Studio, no problems whatsoever.

I found the communications prior to our arrival to be quite confusing. Firstly we waited a few days to even receive a reply regarding the Dolphin Studio so we were very close to choosing other accommodation. Secondly I tried to ring the phone number on the Affordable Paradise website a few times and finally received a call back from Maria who was very pleasant to deal with but was difficult to understand at times. There also seemed to be a problem with our arrival time that I had mentioned to begin with in my initial enquiry.
I would suggest a smoother communication process at your office for better customer service, however I can't fault the accommodation at all. It was wonderful and great value for money.

Thank you

Date of Stay: April 2014

My mom stayed in the Dolphin Studio for her first visit to Hawaii, and it was pretty much perfect. The room is cute and comfortable, with a newly renovated bath and a very serviceable kitchen (even a hotplate!). She slept very well in the quiet neighborhood and walked to the beach on her own with no difficulties (5-10 minutes, depending on how she wandered). The only way I can imagine it being any better is if a magic fairy showed up every morning with hot coffee and papaya so you didn't even have to get out of bed...! Next time my spouse and I go, we're going to try to stay at the Finns' house (in the Dolphin Studio if it's available) because they are thoughtful and helpful hosts. Truly aloha spirit.

Wow, wow and more wow!!! A very nice, quite, peaceful, serene stay. The studio FEELS like a 5 star. There Is everything you may need and more. It seems newly remodeled and the shower is one of my dream showers. The hosts are available and yet very respectful of space and privacy. The energy there is family oriented and welcoming. The location is close walking distance to everything you might need. The beach is too a short walk.
I actually have returned to live in Hawaii and am renting another of their rentals on the same property, very nice quality and feels very homey. The hosts are 5 star quality themselves ALL of them. This was the best decision I ever made....to get away from Waikiki and stay in a private home.
The accommodation was perfect for my needs and Gabrielle & Lee were the perfect hosts.

I was close to shopping and the beach and Kailua is a great launching point for all of the points of interest and attractions you want to visit. If I return to Oahu, I will definitely try to get this same location for my stay.

The only thing that I might like to see is some additional ways to prep food. The hot plate and electric frying pan are ok but it does really limit what types of cooking you can do. However, if you are happy with simple meals like I was, it's perfect.

We had a great time in the Dolphin Studio. Everything that we needed was there. The Wilson's are great people!! Very helpfull, they even brought us to a shop the first day so we could do some shopping. We rented bikes (very Dutch :) so within 5 minutes we got to beach and shops without having a parking problem! The thing why we don't rate it with an "excellent" was because it wasn't too clean. A lot of dust on the fan and in the cabinets (I am allergic) and the cutlery tray wasn't clean. There was also a certain smell in the studio we didn't like. Hopefully the next time that we come it will be clean and without the smell. Because we love to come back!!
