Perfect!

Review submitted: February 14, 2017

Date of Stay: January 2017

We stayed for a week in January and were quite comfortable. We had a 15 month old in tow and it was a perfect place. Great privacy, quite, and a perfect size. The studio layout was perfect to put a pack-n-play in the living room area. No bugs either! Much closer to the beach than we anticipated. It's in walking distance to restaurants and stores. Thank you for such a great place. Would stay there again if we ever get a chance to return Oahu!

We enjoyed our stay at this apartment. The house were very nice people. The surrounding neighborhood is a little bit busy we were frequently woken up by lawn and garden related machines in the morning. It rained for most of our trip so we had to rely a little bit on the television for entertainment. A bigger screen would've been nice the TV was very small. Other than that we had a great time. Everything was clean and inviting.

Good location for a small family, near beaches

Review submitted: July 25, 2016

Review from: Guest from City, State

Date of Stay: July 2016

This location was good for us because we liked being in Kailua. It is close to town and our favorite beaches. The unit has a kitchen for cooking which was convenient. There is no AC, but the breeze and fans were fine. It was hard to find at night when we arrived after midnight because our flight was delayed. There is a fenced gate at the front of the property. The rental unit is at the back of the property and not easily seen from the road. At first I thought we were at the wrong address. Make sure to call ahead and remind them to leave the unit open as it was locked and we had to wake someone up to get in at 1 am. Also make sure to take all trash out every day so you don't attract bugs and geckos.

The location is great. A couple blocks walk to a less busy beach entrance. You can also walk into Kailua. Having the use of beach towels/boogie board etc was nice and the owner is helpful. It is hot though. Other people thought the ceiling fans were enough to cool it off but I found it still very hot making it harder to sleep. You have to have the windows and doors open to get the breeze. We also did get a huge cockroach in the shower. Luckily it wasn't until the day before we left. If you can handle the heat, it is a good location to stay away from the crowds of Honolulu.

Great location, lovely, safe residential area. Just a short walk to a beautiful beach. A little longer walk to the town centre & to bus stops but bikes could be rented. Great selection of shops. Easy to get buses to Honolulu. Host family very nice & helpful. Cottage comfortable with private small garden area. Delightful dogs to welcome you at the end of your daily adventures.

Great location, only short walk to Kailua beach & short drive to Lanikai. Town centre short walk or drive away. Also only 30 mins to Waikiki or Pearl Harbour. Cosy space with so much potential but in need of thorough cleaning. The kitchen in particular needed a proper cleaning. Quite buggy too. The hosts were very nice & down to earth. Their dogs were lovely too. Good WiFi & great TV channel selection. Nice private outdoor space.

First Hawaiian Vacation

Review submitted: November 05, 2015

Review from: Hayley & Colin Carter from Medrord, Oregon

Date of Stay: October 2015

After months of pouring over listings and reviews we decided on the Beachwalk Bungalow. It was a fantastic decision. The bungalow is located within a 5 minute walk to the beautiful Kailua Beach in a quiet, lovely little neighborhood. The unit is located behind the owners house but felt very private. Michelle and John are very nice, laid back people. They were quick to respond to any of our requests but made sure to give us our space. We had a rental car and never had an issue with parking. If you don't have a car, Kailua Town is within walking distance. The bungalow was well stocked with all the kitchen and bathroom essentials. There are only two minor issues we encountered: Gnats from the fallen fruit (the screens weren't much help) and the temperature in the unit. They did provide us with a pretty powerful fan, but it just wasn't enough so we went to Walgreens and purchased an additional fan. And then just returned it the morning we left. In all fairness we didn't bring up the issue with the owners. It seemed insignificant to us. This unit is a great choice. It's only about a (beautiful) 30 minute drive from Waikiki but far enough away that it doesn't feel like you're in the middle of tourist central. I wouldn't hesitate to return to the Beachwalk Bungalow.

Enjoyed our stay . A few things that should be addressed- should have weatherstrip on bottom of doors to prevent salamanders from getting into unit.Could have more hangers on wall or door in bathroom to hang up towels etc. 2 burner stove and frig. should be looked at -burners go off and on takes forever to boil water, frig- has water laying on bottom shelf - Michele knows about this.
Other that the above we enjoyed our stay and would recommend to others.

Wonderful place to stay!

Review submitted: April 20, 2015

Review from: Julie from Cincinnati, OH

Date of Stay: April 2015

I booked this for our family of 3 based on location, price, and good reviews, and we loved this place. It is in a nice, quiet residential neighborhood convenient to beautiful beaches and shopping. The hosts are very helpful and friendly with 2 sweet, well-behaved dogs that will roll over and solicit belly rubs if you are so inclined. The cottage itself is small but was everything we needed. My husband and I found the queen bed very comfortable, and our teenager slept well on the futon bed. We had our coffee on the back patio every morning with birds chirping surrounded by lovely landscaping. I am hot-natured and worried a bit about not having A/C, but there was such a nice breeze blowing through the front and back windows every night and the ceiling fan works well, so we were perfectly comfortable. The cottage is handily equipped for a day at the beach with towels, boogie boards, chairs, an umbrella, and cooler. After we had been there a few days the owner dropped by and asked if we needed our towels washed, so we gave them to her and found them clean and neatly stacked when we got back from sightseeing that day. My husband forgot his bifocals when we left and she contacted us and sent them right away with no fuss. I am so happy we decided to stay here instead of a crowded hotel, it really added to a wonderful vacation experience.

We had a great time staying at Beachwalk Bungalow. Our Host Michelle was very friendly. She even invited us for Thanks Giving Dinner and Pie. The living area is very clean and comfy. With small back yard and sitting area, we stayed in for dinner and drinks, talked, listen to music watched TV and more during night times. Day times short walk to beach. All the necessary equipment is available for beach going. Chairs, Mats, towels, boards, snorkel gears.

Also we found close by Safeway (about 1 mile out). The property is at a very safe neighborhood.

We will for sure stay at the Bungalow. We recommend to others as well.

It was wonderful stay!
The property is well cleaned, not so spacious but enough for three people.
It takes 5-10minutes walk from the property to beautiful Kailua beach. We could see beautiful sun rising every morning there. And it takes 20 minutes walk to the Whole foods market, It is better using bicycle or car.
Beach gears are all available, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, boogie boards, surfboards...
The property is in the middle of residential area, so we could stay like as we are living!
Michele and her family ,owner of this property are friendly and kind. They helped us In a kind of trouble kindly.
We really want to stay there again.

Review from: Guest from City, State

Date of Stay: August 2014

We stayed at Beachwalk Bungalow when the hurricanes were all around this summer.

The good - Very close to gorgeous beach as well as the restaurants and shops in Kailua. The kitchen is well-outfitted. The family that rents to accomodations are nice, and communicated well before we got there.

The bad - I'm not sure if it's normal, the unit was very buggy with cockroaches and lizards. Since the hurricanes changed the weather, it was VERY hot and no tradewinds during our stay, and no AC. It was bad enough (too hot & humid) that we cut our visit short. We mentioned that we were leaving early to the host's husband and there was no further communication from the host.

Our stay at the beachwalk bungalow was everything we wanted and more. It was located in such a great spot that it was easy to walk to the beach or to the main shopping street. We didn't bother renting a car and just enjoyed the walk.
Michele was a wonderful host. She is so friendly and accomodating but totally respects your privacy. She was very quick to come to your aid if you needed her help and was always there with a smile.
The place was clean and comfy. As I read in another review, there is no a/c but the breezes that come through the place were more than enough to keep us cool. We really enjoyed our time here.

This place is a lovely play to stay in Kailua. It's secure and private behind gate and fence, is beautifully landscaped, has excellent facilities, and is absolutely beautiful. Near downtown Kailua. Michelle and John are great hosts but not at all intrusive. Only caveat is that you may or may no have Wi-Fi internet connection; they were having some trouble when I was there. Short distance from Kailua Beach - one of the most beautiful beaches in the islands. HIGHLY RECOMMEDED.

We had a great time while we were there. The bungalow was perfect for us. I was afraid that the lack of AC was going to be a factor since I always run hot, but just the opposite. There is a lot shade around the bungalow and big open windows for the breeze just flows through. The bed is comfortable and there's good water pressure. The host family was nice and the dogs were too. There was a random bark every now and then, but no yapping or constant barking. Make sure you rub Brown Dog's belly really good for me. Michelle (the host) is really friendly and the communication was good.

We enjoyed our stay very much at the beachwalk bungalow. Our host Michele was very helpful with any of our needs. The bungalow is located behind the main house which allowed for plenty of privacy and peace and quiet as well as a home-like atmosphere with all the necessary amenities.

We were less than a 10 minute walk to the ocean and a beautiful beach. Also the bungalow is located within a short driving distance of 20 minute walk to the center of town.

We would recommend the beachwalk bungalow to anyone looking for a nice alternative to the big hotel experience.
